Feeding the soul...
Traditional and wholesome, our delicious fare will make you fall in love with food all over again. Prepared with the highest quality, locally sourced ingredients, we serve dishes that make mealtimes into highlights of the day.
A matter of taste
Good food expertly prepared is something we can all appreciate. In stimulating the senses, the pleasure gained from a great meal leaves a lasting impression that lingers for the rest of the day. And it’s because we want our residents to have the best that our chefs insist on using ingredients of the highest provenance from tried and trusted local suppliers.
Care is taken to understand and appreciate the individual needs of every diner; not simply dietary necessity, but personal preference, too, so that everyone leaves the table completely satisfied and looking forward to their next meal. Attention is paid to portion sizes; light starters are on offer, and a variety of supper choices are also available as room service.
And in addition to our regular menus, on special occasions or seasonal celebrations, such as Christmas lunch or a royal wedding, there will be alternative or themed options. We will also occasionally avail of a local supplier to provide freshly prepared fish and chips for a traditional fish supper.
All food, drinks and refreshments are included in the full board rate; and should anyone wish to invite a friend or relative to sample our delicious home-cooking, we are happy to welcome them for lunch or supper, at a nominal fee.
Dishing up the day
Breakfast is served as room service between 8 and 9am, although refreshments are available from 6am. Morning coffee, tea and biscuits are then available to enjoy either in rooms or throughout the communal areas.
At 12 noon, residents are invited for pre-lunch sherry and aperitifs in the Drawing Room, before taking lunch in the Dining Room at 1pm, where staff will be on hand to offer assistance if required. Consisting of three courses and coffee, lunch may also be taken as room service from 12.45pm, should any resident feel unwell or have a conflicting appointment.
Afternoon tea is served from 3.30pm in residents’ rooms, the lounges, or in the gardens, weather permitting; however, tea is always available. From 6pm, residents may opt to have supper in their rooms or in the Dining Room. And from 8.30pm onwards, night time drinks are offered to round the evening off and are available through the night, on request.
Here is an example of our weekly menu.
Service with a smile
Under the watchful guidance of our experienced head chef, John Morris, our dedicated kitchen staff are always to be found hard at work, ensuring the daily menus are of the highest standard, and that all residents leave the dining table happy and satisfied.
Great importance is placed on In-house training to enable all staff to have a clear understanding of what is expected of them, and the need to appreciate the varied diets of our residents. As a result, many of our employees remain with us for long periods, inspired by the attention to detail and care invested in the catering output, and content within the happy working environment it fosters.
Head Chef – John
Michelin-starred head chef John Morris has brought a wealth of experience and expertise, amassed over three decades, to his role at The Old Hall.
Following a sound culinary grounding, established in the heat of an Italian restaurant kitchen, John spent the ensuing twenty years building his own business: Capital Catering London, during which time he catered for both HM The Queen and Princess Margaret. But it was as co-owner of the renowned Abinger Hammer eatery Drakes on the Pond that he achieved his coveted Michelin star, alongside fellow chef Steve Drake.
A firm believer in the importance of locally sourced produce, John has previously also been seen nationwide adorning the packaging of Porkinson Banger as one of a select band of chefs to be honoured with an invitation to create a recipe using the celebrated sausages.
And when not whisking up marvellous meals, John enjoys running or relaxing over an afternoon’s fishing.
Thank you for the 6 wonderful days staying at The Old Hall. I loved every minute of my time there. You have created a warm, supportive community which nourishes me, just as much as the delicious and varied meals we had. All my friends who visited The Old Hall were so impressed!
…I cannot praise enough the staff – all the staff – Management, Kitchen (delicious food!), all the cheerful, friendly and endlessly patient carers. I thank them all. My short time at The Old Hall for respite did me a world of good.
….The food is exceptional and the choice delicious on a daily basis. You really feel like every meal is a home cooked delight made with love as well as being nutritious and exactly what is needed!
