Food, glorious food...

If food truly is the way to a person’s heart, then our varied menus of traditional, wholesome and nutritious fare are something to fall in love with. Prepared with our residents firmly in mind, the dishes are bite-sized portions of happiness.

A taste of the good

Good food appeals to all our senses. A favourite meal that evokes a treasured memory will feed more than just the body, that’s why listening to our residents’ culinary preferences is about more than just addressing dietary need; it’s also about nourishing the soul.
In keeping with our core value of bespoke care, our head chef makes certain that every resident receives the level of individual attention needed to become familiar with their particular preferences and dietary requirements, so every mealtime is one to look forward to.

We always want our residents to have the best, that’s why our meals contain locally sourced ingredients of the highest provenance and are cooked to exacting standards. Attention is paid to portion sizes; light starters are on offer, and a variety of supper choices are also available as room service.

In addition to our regular menus, special occasions or seasonal celebrations elicit a change in the dining experience when we offer alternative or themed options; for instance at Christmas lunch or to mark a national event. We will also occasionally avail of a local supplier to provide freshly prepared fish and chips for our popular traditional fish supper evenings.

All food, drinks and refreshments are included in the full board rate. And should anyone wish to invite a friend or relative to sample our delicious home-cooking, we are happy to welcome them for lunch or supper, at a nominal fee.

The culinary clock

The day begins with breakfast as room service at 8.15am, although early morning refreshment is available from 6am. Morning coffee, tea and biscuits will then be available in the rooms or in the communal areas from 10.30am.

Pre-lunch sherry and aperitifs are served in the Drawing Room from 12pm, where staff will be on hand to provide assistance. Residents are then escorted to the Dining Room for lunch at 1pm. However, if any resident feels unwell or has an alternative appointment, lunch may be taken as room service from 12.30pm. Lunch consists of three courses with coffee, and staff are available to assist where required.

Afternoon tea is served from 3.30pm in residents’ rooms, the lounges, or in the gardens during warmer weather, although tea is available at any time. From 6pm, residents may choose to have supper in their rooms or in the Dining Room. And to round the evening off, night time drinks are served from 9pm onwards and through the night on request.

The catering team

Under the guidance of our in-house trained head chef Sam Ferreira, our tightly-knit team of dedicated chefs and kitchen assistants work tirelessly to ensure the quality of the kitchen’s output, and that all residents leave the dining table happy and satisfied.

Great importance is placed on in-house training to enable all staff to have a clear idea of the standards required, and to become familiar with the individual likes and dislikes of our diners.

As a result, many of our employees have remained with us, relishing the values and care invested in the food we produce, and the happy and nurturing environment that creates.

I arrived on your doorstep in pain, exhausted, tearful and anxious.  I left smiling, confident, pain controlled and heavier due to the delicious food!. But most of all a thankful heart…

A Clarke

It was not only a time of exactly ‘what the doctor ordered’, but also one of total spoiling, love and care, surrounded by a staff who have very high standards of care. The food was utterly delicious and so well cooked. Coming down to drinks and lunch all added to the recovery.
